Jumi at the Bern Market
Market – every Saturday morning
Our regular spot on Saturday mornings is in the Old Town on Münstergasse. Whether in icy cold, light drizzle or warm mild weather, the market team meets Finä every Saturday morning very early at the Alte Bären in Boll. After a short coffee the cars are loaded with cheese and meat and the market trailers are hitched up. Then it’s off in the dark to Bern, to Münstergasse. It gets a little hectic there – Barbara stacks up the La Bouse, Nico hefts the quarter Emmentaler into position, Jönu makes fresh Jumi-tätschli, Hene brings his Berkel slicers into position, Oli trims the Omoso filet and Just cuts the first slices of truffle raclette.
From half past seven the first customers stroll through the Old Town and start filling their market bags and fine-tuning their menus. At Jumi’s the last crates are still being cleared away and already the cheese-and-meat world is in place, the so-called Jumiversum!
Throughout the morning people now discuss, shop, taste, talk shop and exchange recipe ideas at the Jumi stall. The busy activity carries on through the morning until the Münster rings its bells at noon. That’s the signal to pack up.
In Boll everything is then cleaned, tidied and restocked for the next Saturday. Finally, everything is done – there’s an after-work beer and something warm to eat for everyone. From then on everyone heads off into their weekend….
